Former major leaguer Elijah Dukes in more legal trouble

Former major league outfielder Elijah Dukes, who recently made headlines by telling the Tampa Tribune that he sometimes smoked marijuana before home games while he was with the Washington Nationals, is in hot water again.

The St. Petersburg Times reports Dukes, 26, was arrested Wednesday and accused of aggravated battery on a pregnant woman.

During his three-season major league career, which ended in 2009, Dukes was better known for his off-field problems than his on-field prowess.

He hit .242 with 31 homers and 123 RBIs with the Tampa Bay Rays and Nationals, but was arrested for contempt of court and failure to pay child support and alimony. According to the St. Petersburg Times, Dukes owed three women a total of $143,000 in child support and alimony. He also had run-ins with teammates and coaches during his baseball career.

The newspaper adds that at the time of his arrest Wednesday, Dukes was wanted on warrant for contempt of court. He also faces accusations of driving with a suspended or revoked license.
